Henry Real Bird

Born and raised on the Crow Indian reservation, Hank raises bucking horses in the Wolf Teeth Mountains of Montana where he and his family are instrumental in the annual re-enactment of the Battle of Little Big Horn. He recently retraced his grandfather’s 415-mile journey of a century ago from North Dakota to Montana’s Rocky Boy Reservation in North-central Montana on horseback. He is an educator with a Master’s Degree from Montana State University and actively involved in preserving the Crow language and culture. With five collections of poetry and included in six anthologies, he was named Poet Laureate of Montana in 2010.
